Swanage Landers Are Restarting Their Litter-Picking

frank june 2021

Our organised monthly meets will recommence on Saturday 26th June 2021 at 0915hrs, meeting as usual at the Main Beach Car Park, Victoria Avenue, Swanage for a 0930 start.

We meet at the main entrance to the car park, where a new meeting-point sign has been fixed.

I would like to thank all residents of Swanage who continue to regularly do their bit, to pick up litter, fag ends and dog mess. All of your efforts help to make Swanage the place it is.

Post COVID-19 Swanage Landers is now more closely aligned with the Town Council (and represented on appropriate Operations & other committees), an the Council insure both our litter and pavement & kerp sweeping activities on spaces with a driving speed limit of 40mph or less. We have entered into “Memorandum of Understanding” so that our activities are both safe, and aligned with the needs of the wider community.

I’m calling on our faithful (litter picking) regulars, and anyone else who would like to come along also, to lend a hand; you will all be made most welcome. I especially call out to those who help on the beach; can you help us on Landers on Saturday 26th June?

Sweeping of pavements & kerbs is a more arduous experience, and tends to happen at quieter times (early in the morning for example!). Our current aim is to remove excess sand from Victoria Avenue. Can you help? I really do need help on this! Please contact me at swanagelanders@herstoncross.co.uk

N.B.

For clarification, there is also a small ‘Swanage Army Link’ team of volunteers who undertake litter removal and other small works on roads across Purbeck.

This work is undertaken with a completely different Safety Management System, and costs are met from private sources and sponsorship.

Again, if you are good at very early starts, and working to strict safety regimes, please contact me at sal@herstoncross.co.uk
